As I sit with my own grief, hand over my heart, feeling through and through- I realize how it is on the spectrum of love.

I realize that we all have so much grief inside of us. We need to grieve the loss our childhoods, the changes we've been through, our transformation towards death and ultimately existing in an ocean of unknown.

The ocean is an apt metaphor for grief. There are days when it's sunny and calm. There are days when the wind screams and waves of gasoline and inferno lap the shore. There are days when it is unbearably dark and deep and quiet, except for distant rumblings of the leviathan.

But when I say it's on the spectrum of love, I mean that it's bittersweet. This ocean is warm and we are immortal to its expression. Your grief is an extension of your love. It represents how far you are willing to go, how deep in to darkness you will wade for love. It represents holding on to yourself. You're going to be okay. Don't let go. ❤️

About the Artist

Dionne Ong is a mixed-race Asian Canadian artist whose work provokes and challenges her viewers' connection with nature, infinity, and self-love.

She has an 'every day' practice, most notably publishing 261 unique illustrations in 2021.

"It's so easy to see the magic in Mother Nature and animals, and deem them worthy of love. And yet, we struggle to allow ourselves to be worthy of love- despite being part of nature. The purpose of my work has always been to connect you to your magic."
